Messier 100 (also known as NGC 4321) is a spiral galaxy about 52.5 million light-years away in the constellation Coma Berenices. It was discovered by Pierre Méchain in 1781. It is one of the brightest galaxies in the Virgo cluster. Five supernovae have been identified in M100: SN 1901B, SN 1914A, SN 1959E, SN 1979C and SN 2006X.
