The travel diaries 2011

Loneliness, detached, overwhelmed, fascinated, homesick – a year of travelling around the globe on business trips.

Gunther Machu flew 6 times around the world, spent 1.5 weeks (net) in airplanes 2011 and collected shots the whole year for this project.

He walked for hours around airports to get the one shot, got nearly arrested at Chicago O’Hare but had some good luck too!

Filmed at Seoul, Shanghai, Beijing, Chicago, Houston, Dubai, Frankfurt and my home – airport Vienna.

Shot on Lumix GH1 and GH2 (both hacked), by making use of the ETC mode on the GH2 I was able to get up to 3200mm equiv. focal length.

A Year in New York

Living in New York I’d grab my Canon 7D, or S95, and shoot footage of what was going on around me. It seemed like a never ending project and you could stay filming life in New York for a long time. But eventually I put my camera down and started to edit. Here’s the end result, it’s a bit rough and ready but that’s life in the Big Apple I guess.

José Juventino Policarpo Rosas Cadenas (25 January 1868 – 9 July 1894) was a Mexican composer, violinist, and band leader.

Rosas’s best known work is “Sobre las Olas” or “Over the Waves” waltz. It was first published by Rosas in 1884 when he was in New Orleans, Louisiana with the popular Mexican band at the World Cotton Centennial World’s Fair. [wikipedia]

So this waltz is dedicated to my mexican readers and for those starting their summer holidays.
